This recipe comes from and old coworker of my mom's when she was working for the bank in Oceanside. With a name like "Hawaiian Ribs" I was skeptical that it was a Better Homes and Gardens recipe that the magazine thought sounded Hawaiian, but apparently her friend was actually from Hawaii, so maybe there's some authenticity to it. Beware these little puppies are addictive...
Hawaiian Ribs
Serves 4-6Ingredients
- 1 cup soy sauce
- 1 cup broth
- 1 cup hot water
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 6 tablespoons vinegar
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1/2 cup white wine
- 1 small ginger root, finely chopped
- 8 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 lbs spare ribs, cut lengthwise by butcher
- Drizzle of oil
Directions
Cut the ribs into 2-3 rib sections.
Brown ribs in oil with ginger root.
Place browned ribs and ginger in slow cooker. Mix the sugar and mustard in the hot water. Add the rest of the ingredients and pour mixture over ribs in crock pot. Cook for 5-6 hours on low.
Remove ribs from crock pot with a slotted spoon. (Although the cooking liquid is so good, you'll want to eat it like soup.) They should be falling off the bone.
We like it served as an appetizer or with wild rice pilaf and broccoli as a meal.
